Handlebar Gauntlets

Hi all,

I fitted some Oxford Hotgrips last week which are great but didn’t quite cut the mustard the other night riding home in -2 C. Thumbs were frozen as I’m 1/2hr at motorway speeds.
I had some marine canvas and foam backed material left over from another project so whipped up a set of these. Had a test run yesterday and am pleased to say they work really well. With the grips on 75% my hands were toasty warm.
I was considering bark busters but have had these on other bikes and still got cold hands.
One strip of Velcro and they can slide off when not required.

I bought TUCANO URBANO BAR MUFFS years ago. They are waterproof and have a thick thermal fleece lining. You can get away with wearing summer gloves in winter without electric heating.

Failry involved mounting and clumpsy handling the bike (I guess they all do).

hand guard help very little in reducing the heat loss from the fingers

IÂ’m still using polly grips
http://whiplashpowersports.com/Polly...g_115-0-1.html
Had to use a 12-24v converter and then used a DPDT switch so I can go from low (approx 32W) to high (approx 128W) (series to parallel).
Will probably fit a DC controller with an additional 741 op amp and an ambient temperature sensor for an offset control, at some point.

If I do sell my bike, will keep the Magura handle bars and the poly heaters I fitted when I first got the bike

But I see why the oxfords are popular, as easier to fit, and draw less power; and I think Polly heater have gone out of business.
But a lot of people have complained about water ingress with the Oxford type of heaters.

How did you make the gauntlets, as agree handguards donÂ’t give much wind protection, especially to the top of the hand.

Something any upholsterer could make up for you IÂ’m sure.

Yup. thats the way to go. I use thin gloves all year around and can confirm that the Tucano Urbano muffs will fit over Barkbusters. Heated grips are no good in the cold, you need to keep the wind blast off your hands.

awesome job buddy!.. I used to be a sad git and refuse to adopt things that 'may be perceived as naff / none sporty' but after having grown up a bit I've learn't I'd rather have things work and be comfortable for me than worry about 'fashion'. Gotta say though; I love my heated Gerbing jacket and gloves..........sh1t.....I'm still a brand worshiper aren't I?....buggga!

Me too..... although I do find the gloves a bit too warm. I considered the inner gloves that I could then pair up with some summer gloves. But then it all gets a bit messy.
